Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) announced that her resolution to recognize Saturday, May 15th as Armed Forces Day in California passed the California State Senate with unanimous support on Thursday.
The U.S. Armed Forces is made up of 1.36 million service members with an additional 800,000 in the reserves, Air National Guard and Army National Guard.
“As the first female veteran elected to the California State Legislature, a member of the Governor’s Military Council and Vice Chair of the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, I am proud to bring this resolution forward to honor those that have sacrificed so much for our country,” said Senator Grove.
This resolution recognizes the U.S. Armed Forces history and honors the men and women who have taken an oath to defend the United States at home and abroad since its inception during the American Revolutionary War.
“When you raise your hand and swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, it requires bravery, valor and comes with great responsibility,” said Senator Grove. “Our nation owes our men and women in uniform a debt of gratitude and we are eternally grateful that they answered the call to serve in the armed forces.”
SR 34 will honor both the history of our Armed Forces and the sacrifice of every service member, veteran and their families.
