California consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for human trafficking cases, yet Senate Democrats killed an effort by Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) that would have made human trafficking a serious and violent felony.
“California must prosecute these horrendous acts as the serious and violent crimes that they are,” Senator Grove said. “The fact that Democrats refuse to do so should concern all Californians.”
By rejecting Senator Grove’s amendments to Assembly Bill 2167 today, Democrats chose to keep the classification of human trafficking as a non-serious and non-violent crime, which does NOT count under California’s Three Strikes law.
