Sen. Grove’s measure to increase penalties for child sex buyers moves to Senate for final floor vote

Senator Shannon Grove’s Senate Bill 1414 (SB 1414) passed off the Assembly Floor and is moving to the Senate for a final vote. SB 1414 addresses the lucrative crime of sex trafficking and would increase penalties for those who purchase children for sex.

Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement:

“SB 1414 has passed the Assembly and is moving to the Senate to concur in amendments. I am beyond grateful this bill will charge predators who purchase children under the age of 15 for sex with a felony. While I am disappointed that 16 and 17-year-olds are not given the same protections as younger children, I am pleased that we are making a change in the law to protect thousands of victims. I will never stop fighting to protect all children from those who seek to harm them.”

SB 1414 will move to the Senate Floor for a full concurrence vote by midnight tomorrow, August 31.
