Senate Republican Leader Grove's Statement on Proposed Release of a Sexually Violent Predator to Morongo Basin

Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement regarding the proposed release of Ross Wollschlager into Joshua Tree. Wollschlager is a 56-year-old felon who was convicted of multiple rapes and child molestation crimes he committed in Ventura County. Hundreds of parents and concerned residents of the High Desert attended a meeting tonight hosted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the San Bernardino County District's Attorney Office. Residents of the Morongo Basin packed the Sportsman's Club in Joshua Tree to voice their concerns and fears about the release of the convicted rapist.

"This predator has no ties to the Morongo Basin and it is unacceptable for him to be relocated in Joshua Tree. Because of his history as a sexual predator, he is a danger to the community. I am extremely concerned that the residence where he would be living has more than 200 women and children living within a three-mile radius.

"I will continue to work with local elected officials, law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and the District Attorney's office to fight his release into our community," said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.

A Ventura County Superior Court Judge will make the final decision on November 7th regarding the release of Wollschlager.
