Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) today announced $1.8 million in funding for a new Safe Route to School project in Oildale that will make it safer for children and families to walk and travel in the community.
The project will install warning beacons, signs, and ADA ramps at several uncontrolled multi-lane crosswalks in Oildale in East Bakersfield. These upgrades will give students clearer, more visible crossings and improve access for residents with disabilities.
“Parents in Oildale should not have to worry that their kids can’t get to school safely,” said Senator Shannon Grove. “Every child deserves a safe walk to the classroom, whether that is a first-grader holding a parent’s hand or a student crossing a busy street on their own. This $1.8 million investment will install warning beacons, better signs, and ADA ramps at uncontrolled multi-lane crosswalks so children and families can travel more safely.”

Highway 58 truck climbing lane in Tehachapi, a 3.5-mile safety and commerce project Grove has worked with Caltrans, Kern COG, and local partners to move forward.
Highway 58 safety improvements at the California City Boulevard interchange after fatal crashes, including a formal request to Caltrans to add infrastructure at that crossing.
Water infrastructure for Kern and the Valley, including support for Friant-Kern Canal repairs and state budget requests for the Indian Wells Valley interconnection pipeline serving the Ridgecrest area.
Senator Grove has advocated for and prioritized projects that improve roads, school routes, and water systems Kern County families rely on every day.
