Senator Grove Issues Statement on Bakersfield being a Popular Location for Millennials

A 2019 study by the National Association of Realtors highlights the city of Bakersfield as a popular real estate market for millennials to purchase a home. The study, “Most Popular Areas for Millennials: where they move and stay,” points to the job market and affordability as the two main factors that millennials weigh when deciding to purchase a home.

Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement in response to the NAR 2019 report:

“I’m not surprised with the results of this study. Kern County is multi-faceted: we have agriculture, oil, aerospace, and defense. Eastern Kern County is the heart of California’s aerospace and military presence and is the home of two military installations: the Naval Air Weapons Station at China Lake and Edwards Air Force Base. The aerospace and defense industries contribute to our region’s robust economy and workforce.

“Kern County, like the rest of the state, needs affordable housing. We know that 53% of Californians say they are considering fleeing the state and when you track that to millennials, the number is higher at 63%. This study by the realtors shows that millennials are interested in moving to Bakersfield because we are affordable,” said Senate Republican Leader Grove.
