“Governor Newsom’s State of the State speech recognized the need to fix several critical issues facing Californians. Our state has 25% of the country’s homeless population, one in five Californians live in poverty, and government agencies like the High Speed Rail Authority have been mismanaged and lack transparency. Republicans have been working to address these issues for years, and we look forward to partnering with him on real solutions.
“However, many of the Governor’s priorities will result in unsustainable government spending. For example, his incremental approach to a government run health care system will start at $200 million per year and go as high as $400 billion per year at full implementation. Despite this immense cost, it will be even harder for existing Medi-Cal consumers to access a provider.
“For decades, bad policies enacted by the state’s majority party have made it increasingly difficult for middle-class Californians to pay for necessities like housing, food, utilities, and gasoline.
“I look forward to working with Governor Newsom to fix wasteful government programs, and to help make California more affordable. Together, we can ensure all Californians enjoy the benefits of living in the Golden State.”
