Senator Grove's Statement on California Attorney General Attacking the Oil and Gas Industry

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement in response to the latest legal challenge filed by California Attorney General. This lawsuit is aimed at suing over environmental impacts which would allow additional fracking on federal lands. This is the 65th lawsuit the state has filed against the federal government since January 1, 2017.

“Earlier this week, Governor’s staff heard from hundreds of concerned Kern County residents about the Governor’s attacks on the oil and gas industry. Despite the pleas from these families, the Governor’s Administration has yet again attacked this industry.

“If California truly wants to be a global leader in green environmental policies, domestic oil production must continue. Petroleum byproducts are in much of everyday lives, and the demand for oil isn’t going away anytime soon. If California does not produce the oil here in the most environmentally- reasonable and humane way, then we will be forced to import it from other regions. These regions lack the environmental standards that California has in place, and using oil from them could lead to more damage to our environment in the long run.

“Today’s legal action by the California Attorney General is just another swipe at the federal government at the expense of California families,” said Senator Shannon Grove.
