Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) strongly opposed Sacramento Democrats' efforts to override voter intent by redrawing congressional maps to gain additional seats before the midterm election.
In 2008 and 2010, California voters approved measures to remove redistricting from politicians' control. However, the legislative Democrats have now rushed new maps through without meaningful public input or transparency regarding who created them.
“California voters have spoken: politicians shouldn’t draw their own districts for personal or political gain,” said Senator Shannon Grove. “Forcing this power grab on our state without transparency is wrong for California. This bill was rushed through too fast, with no answers to voters’ questions. This isn’t about party politics—it’s about keeping our elections honest.”
