Senator Shannon Grove Reflects on Dolly Parton’s Legacy of Inspiring Children Worldwide to Love Reading

Senator Shannon Grove issued the following statement honoring the life and legacy of Dolly Parton and her extraordinary commitment to childhood literacy through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library:

“Dolly Parton was an American treasure whose music and generosity touched millions, but one of her greatest and most lasting achievements will always be the Imagination Library and the millions of children who discovered a love of reading because of her vision.

“I was incredibly honored to work alongside former Senate President pro Tem Toni Atkins to help bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library statewide to California. It was a bipartisan effort that reflected exactly who Dolly was, a great unifier who brought people together around a simple mission: giving every child the opportunity to dream bigger through the gift of a book.

“Dolly understood that putting books into the hands of young children could change the trajectory of their lives. What began as a program inspired by her own father grew into a worldwide literacy movement, and I am incredibly proud that California is now part of that legacy.

“Dolly gave so much of herself throughout her life, but the Imagination Library will continue giving for generations to come. Every book that arrives in the hands of a California child is a piece of the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.

“Most importantly, Dolly was a woman of deep faith who openly shared her love of Jesus throughout her life. We know she is in the arms of the Lord today, and we will forever be grateful for the joy, generosity and love she shared with the world.”
