USMCA is a Win for Farmers and California

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) released the following statement after Congress passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:

“Our Central Valley feeds and fuels the nation. In 2018, California exports to Canada and Mexico supported nearly 240,000 jobs and created more than $29 billion in economic value. This 21st century trade agreement is a huge win for our farmers, farm workers, and agribusiness. President Trump’s critical work on this measure has shown his commitment to supporting the food industry. I am glad congressional members have taken a moment to put our farmers above politics and approved the USMCA,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.

Earlier this month, Senator Grove was one of 26 state leaders from across the United States who signed a letter urging Congressional leaders to pass the USMCA. Legislative leaders from 15 states signed a letter which was delivered to Congressional leaders including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California), House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-New York). A copy of the letter addressed to Congressional leaders can be found here.

The Bakersfield Californian recently published an op-Ed by Senator Grove which explains the importance of the USMCA. Click here to read the op-Ed.

Earlier this year, Senator Grove introduced Senate Joint Resolution 12 which requested the California State Legislature to support and urge Congress to approve the USMCA. SJR 12 passed out of the California State Senate with bipartisan support.
