Senate Republican Leader Grove Salutes Armed Forces Day

SACRAMENTO - Twenty years ago, U.S. Senator John McCain introduced legislation in Congress to dedicate May as National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) to encourage U.S. citizens to observe the month in unity. Six national observances are celebrated this month, including Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 18th and Memorial Day on May 27th in remembrance of U.S. veterans.

Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), the first woman veteran elected to proudly serve in the California Legislature, released the following statement:

“As the first female veteran elected to serve in the California State Legislature, I am deeply honored to recognize the men and women of the Armed Forces. We salute our veterans and thank them for their service and sacrifice to ensure the safety and freedom of Americans. Please take time to thank our military members for their patriotic service to our country.

“I salute my fellow veterans and active duty members of all five branches of our military. They’ve sacrificed to serve as guardians of peace and many of them spent long stretches away from their families and homes,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.
