SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) released the following statement after the Interregional Transportation Improvement Program (ITIP) recently released a revised proposal which will restore funding for the widening projects in Highway 99 and provide $10.3 million for improvements on Highway 46.
“After a hard-fought battle alongside incredible community leaders, I am pleased that the necessary funding for the Highway 99 widening project has been restored and over $10 Million has been secured for Highway 46. These projects will help mitigate the public safety risk on these dangerous roadways and help improve our transportation corridors.
“This is another strong example of our community coming together in support of a cause. I thank everyone who played important roles in this effort. But the fight is not over yet. This is only a revised proposal and the final decision will take place in early 2020 which means we must continue to fight for the Central Valley,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.
The previously submitted ITIP had deleted funding for the Highway 99 widening project. In October, Senator Grove delivered a letter to the Chair of the California Transportation Commission urging the CTC to stop their efforts to retract funding for Highway 99. Read the letter here.
